SALINA — It was a rousing end to the McPherson Middle School volleyball season Tuesday as the Bullpups swept three matches to finish the year with a 14-10 record.
MMS defeated Great Bend (23-25, 25-10, 25-13), the Wichita Defenders (25-23, 25-7) and Sacred Heart (25-8, 25-13).
“Just like the rest of the season, the girls played a close match and were able to fight hard and come away with the victory against Great Bend,” MMS coach Jacque Gehrt said. “The second two matches were a little easier, and we were able to take some risks and try some different things we had been working on in the last few weeks. I am extremely proud of the girls for working hard all season and playing with a lot of passion. They were a joy to coach. If this group of girls sticks together and keeps getting better, they will be an exciting team to watch in the years to come.”
The B-team finished with a sparkling 19-3 record by also sweeping. Victims were Sacred Heart (25-10, 25-13), Great Bend (25-10, 25-9) and Salina South (25-19, 25-8).
“It was a perfect end to a stellar season,” MMS coach Danica Fitzmorris said. “The girls did not allow a loss tonight, even though we had to change our lineup because of illness and injury. That shows just how versatile and flexible these girls are as a team. I would like to thank the families for being so supportive of their daughters and granddaughters. I will miss the work ethic these girls displayed as well as the true teamwork they displayed throughout the season. A job well done.”
