However, with Tuesday’s 32-0 victory over Haysville, the McPherson eighth-grade football team assured itself of a winning season.

The Bullpups will take a 4-2 record into Thursday’s game at Haysville West.

“Our offensive line set the tone early making good running lanes and firing off the ball,” Bullpup coach Brandon Labertew said. “It was fun to get up early. We were able to play a lot of guys tonight so it was a good win for the team.”

Honestee Whittker scored two touchdowns and rushed for 128 yards on 13 carries. Jace Kinnamon added a TD and bulled to 50 yards on nine carries. Kyler Hoppes returned an interception 47 yards for another score and had a good night offensively with 125 yards rushing on just eight carries, while completing 3-of-4 passes for 49 yards.

Scoring 2-pointers were Kinnamon, Hoppes, Whittker and Chandler Wiard.

Shane Starkel was the leading tackler with six, while Wiard, Hoppes and Brandon Yowell all had interceptions. Dawson VanGoethem and Ben Hopkins had a sack. The defense gave up only 111 yards in posting its first shutout.
