HAYSVILLE — McPherson’s seventh-grade football team probably wishes the season wasn’t over.

After starting the year 0-5, the Bullpups closed out with back-to-back wins this week, including Thursday’s 34-16 rout of Haysville West.

“It was great to see us cap off a tough season with two great wins this week,” MMS coach Nick Griggs said. “I was very excited to see the growth of each individual and the team as a whole.  Great promising group of young men.”

The Bullpups came out white-hot, scoring all 34 points in the first half.

Scoring plays:

• Kaleb Hoppes 14-yard run, 2-pointer by Landon Frantz.

• Landon Frantz 25-yard pass from Tyson Gottwald

• Gottwald 1-yard run, 2-pointer by Frantz

• 33-yard run by Hoppes

• Cody Stufflebean 17-yard pass from Gottwald

Hoppes rushed 13 times for 86 yards and Frantz added 65 yards on eight tries. Gottwald was 6 of 15 for 96 yards, with Frantz catching half of those for 38 yards. Tackle leaders were Frantz, Jakob Feil and Mason Thrash, while Stufflebean was the sack leader. Hoppes and Tanner Cheatham had interceptions.
