REMINGTON — There were no medals, but some good performances were turned in Thursday for the Canton-Galva cross country team in the Heart of America League Championships.

In the boys’ race, placing for C-G were Lane Wiens (19th in 20:51), Cash Toews (25th in 21:28) and Trey Wedel (51st in 29:33).

“Lane ran another solid race,” C-G coach Lyle Silsby said. “I know it was not as fast as he had hoped, but he moved up a couple of spots in the last mile and missed medaling by only four places. He gets to run regionals on a familiar course, and usually it is our first race of the year, so I am anxious to see how his time will be running it for regionals. Cash, even while feeling under the weather, only ran 20 seconds off his best time of the season. Cash has come a long way this season and will only continue to improve.”

Silsby added that Wedel’s time was his best of the season.

For the C-G girls, Britany Dieker was 33rd in 20:11, while other runners were Julia Gormely (40th in 21:12) and Kaylee Littrell (56th in 26:06).

“Brittany missed the last two races because of an ankle sprain and it showed,” Silsby said.  “Her ankle is better, but she is not back in shape yet. With only one week until regional we will have to see how far she can get back. Julia ran her best time of the season, and has one more race to see if she can beat it again.”
