WELLINGTON — McPherson High’s cross country team had three runners earn AVCTL distinction during the league championships on Thursday.

Wyatt Hedlund and Tyler Timson made it for the boys by finishing in the Top 14, while Michelle Carrillo achieved league status on the girls’ side.

“It was a tough day for the kids,” MHS coach Gentry Nixon said. “Both teams, but the girls especially, had to overcome some challenges, and they did their best to do just that. All of them showed a lot of heart.”

Another highlight was that Cody LeClaire won the boys’ JV race and Chelsea Regehr was second in the girls’ JV race.
