MOUNDRIDGE — Moundridge’s volleyball team went into the HOA Tournament Saturday as the No. 1 seed and it exited the same way.
The Wildcats won five straight matches to validate their top seed, though they were pushed to the limit in three of them.
“We had a great crowd on Saturday,” Moundridge coach Kelsi Chisholm said. “They kept the energy going in the gym all day and that helped the team stay competitive and working hard until the end. I thought our best match of the day was against Hutch Trinity. I thought our offense did a great job of attacking and blocking and thought our defense picked up a lot of balls. We did not end the day as strong with Sedgwick, but good enough to pull out a win and anytime we can beat a competitive opponent like Sedgwick, who beat us twice already this year, it feels good to win even if it wasn't the most "pretty.”
Moundridge defeated Trinity (25-22, 18-25, 25-21), Sedgwick (25-22, 18-25, 25-21), Remington (23-25, 25-15, 25-15), Marion (25-19, 25-21) and Ell-Saline (25-15, 25-23).
A late-season push enables Moundridge to take a 23-14 record into sub-state play this weekend.
