The Kelly Cordova fairytale continues.
Cordova today was named the KCAC Offensive Player of the Week for leading the McPherson College Bulldogs to a somewhat surprising 24-9 victory over Saint Mary Saturday night before an appreciative Homecoming Weekend crowd.
Cordova, just a freshman, had played his first six games at wide receiver, but injuries to starters Cody Groff and JT Levenseller pressed him into emergency duty
A former high school quarterback, Cordova proved that it was like riding a bicycle against the Spires. He ran the zone-option to perfection, rushing 14 times for 115 yards and a touchdown, while adding 124 yards through the air, including two touchdown passes. He led a Bulldog offense that turned the ball only one time, even though it was starting a running back who had been converted from linebacker during the week as well as a starting receiver who hadn’t caught a pass all year.
Mac, 2-3 in the KCAC and 2-5 overall, goes on the road Saturday to Tabor.
