LINDSBORG — Bethany College’s volleyball team stepped out of KCAC play Monday night to take Haskell to the limit, only to come up short.
The teams swapped the first four sets before Haskell won the deciding set 15-11 for the victory.
The loss spoiled a terrific effort by Bethany’s Ariel Buhr, who recorded a staggering 28 digs. Bryanna Cook was tops in kills with 12.
“Our back row played well tonight,” Bethany coach Nathalea Stephenson said. “Ariel (Buhr) had 28 digs, which is very good. However, on the other hand, it means our blockers weren't doing their job at the net. Haskell is a very scrappy team and made some good plays defensively on our attacks. We have had two straight five-set matches now, and once we all get on the same page I feel we will be OK.”
Bethany, 3-20 overall, returns to KCAC action Wednesday hosting Sterling. The Swedes are looking for their first conference win.
