Swedes' Bryant captures golf title

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Bethany College’s Aspen Bryant earned medalist honors Tuesday in the Park University Fall Golf Classic by winning a playoff.

 Bryant had carded an 84 during Monday’s first round, but charged back with a 75 to tie with Brianna Bordon of Rockhurst and Kamie Rash of Kansas Wesleyan before winning the three-way playoff.

The Swedes’ Arianna Bryant tied for 26th. She finished the tournament with a 188 total, 91 in round one and 97 in round two.

Lexi Pauls tied for 34th. She shot 104 in round one and improved by 15 strokes in round two, finishing with an 89 for a total of 193.

Rachel Meyer placed 57th with a total of 223. She shot 124 in round one and 99 in round two, marking a 25-stroke improvement.

"We did not play timid today," Bethany coach Jon Daniels said. "We did a good job on the final day of the tournament."

Bethany improved by 43 strokes on Day 2. The Swedes shot 403 in round one Monday, and posted a 360 in round two Tuesday. Bethany's improvement gave the Swedes a seventh-place finish with a team total of 763.

Rockhurst University won the tournament with a 679, followed by Kansas Wesleyan University (693), Park University (717), Baker University (727), Ottawa University (741), Fort Hays State University (756), Bethany College (763), Graceland University (766), Iowa Central Community College (773), Park University (B) (776), and Hannibal-Lagrange College (794).

The Park University Fall Classic marks the end of the Swedes' fall competition.
