WICHITA — Bethany College’s soccer teams came away with a win and a tie in games Wednesday against Friends.
The BC women won a dramatic 2-1 double-overtime decision when Arianna Anaya scored a goal with 4 minutes remaining. The victory improved the Swedes to 2-2-2 in the KCAC and 4-9-2 overall.
Bethany’s other goal was by Jenee Fox, which came just 5 minutes into the game.
“To say it is a relief to see a forward score would be an understatement," Bethany coach Sean McMannis said. "It is great to see Jenee get on the scoring sheet on a great shot from distance. Friends did well to battle back and tie it up, but the girls' tenacity to keep pushing forward, even playing a man down, resulted in an overtime goal for Ari. It was a well-needed three points."
The Swedes host Tabor Saturday.
• Bethany 1, Friends 1 — The Swedes and Falcons could decide nothing as they battled for 110 minutes.
Charles Beckhauser scored for Bethany after Friends had taken a 1-0 lead. Both goals in the game were scored in the first half.
“Our team worked hard tonight and earned a tough point on the road," Bethany coach Shane Taylor said. "Kayo Vaz kept us in the game and Charles Beckhauser's equalizer was huge."
The Swedes are still in the KCAC hunt at 4-1-1 and are 6-8-1 overall. They host Tabor Saturday night.
