WINFIELD — McPherson College’s cross country competed Saturday in the annual NAIA Mid States Classic hosted by Southwestern College. Both teams finished in the middle of the pack both amongst NAIA schools and KCAC institutions.
The Bulldog women were led by freshman Laura Gibson, who finished with a career-best 19:58.1. Savana Cross was next for Mac at 20:43.8 and she was followed by Miranda Clark Ulrich at 21:24.1. Heidi Lyne and Erika Doty were the last two scoring MC runners, finishing at 21:53.1 and 23.33.0, respectively. Lauren Wankum, 24:05.0, and Sierra Ulrich, 30:53.6, were the final two Bulldogs to come in. Ulrich posted a PR.
On the men's side, Chris Newell led the charge at 27:40.7 and three places behind him was Dixon Cooney, who finished at 27:44.3 as both set new personal bests. Chris Le came in at 27:57.4, Jordan Bost ran at PR at 28:49.8, and then Michael Janzer ended the scoring Bulldogs at 28:52.3. Kurt Katzdorn clocked a 29:21.5, Jonathan Dominguez came across at 31:14.0, David Friesen ran a 33:19.0 and Karl Timmerman finished at 37:54.7.
The next meet is the most important of the year as the Bulldogs travel to Sterling College for the 2014 KCAC Cross Country Championships on Nov. 8.
