HAYS — The cross country season is over for McPherson High.

The youthful Bullpups did not qualify as a team or have any individuals get in during Saturday’s Class 4A regional meet.

MHS was 10th in both divisions, with Michelle Carrillo the highest finisher for either division as she was 25th.

“We did not finish our season quite the way we planned,” MHS coach Gentry Nixon said. “Both teams finished 10th for the day, which is not at all where we expected to finish. However, the kids ran with a lot of heart and gave a great effort in their final race. Michelle Carrillo was on target to qualify for state with about a half-mile left to go in the race when she caught a ditch wrong.”

A majority of the Bullpups were underclassmen, plus a solid group of eighth-graders will be moving up to provide some depth.
