By going 1-1 in the Class 2A volleyball sub-state on Saturday at Brookville, Inman’s Teutons finished the year with 20 wins.
After defeating Bennington (25-15, 25-23), the Teutons lost in the semifinals to Moundridge (17-25, 21-25).
That gave the Teutons a final 20-14 record. All in all, veteran Teuton coach Russ Goering was pleased.
“I am very proud of the girls,” Goering said. “They set themselves some goals and they worked hard and accomplished most of the goals they set. The five seniors — Krystal Miller, Krystan Miller, Abby Ropp, Sarah Balzer and Vanessa Ediger — were great examples to the younger kids and I thank those girls and wish the best to each one of them.”
• VIKINGS ALSO GO 1-1 — At Larned, Smoky Valley won its first 4A Division II sub-state match against Concordia (25-17, 20-25, 25-16) before losing in straight sets to Thomas More Prep (24-26, 21-25).
The Vikings finished with a 17-21 record under first-year coach Allison O’Neil.
“I thought the team finished the season off strong,” O’Neil said. “As coaches we saw huge gains in different skill abilities. Kate Deterding stepped up and played real well to end the season for us. Rilee Carson (libero) did an excellent job of reading the other team and was picking everything up off the floor that came in her direction. As a group we really pulled together and got everyone involved on the floor, which is what we want to do. The team gained some confidence in themselves as the season progressed.”
