Vikes' Shannon, Windholz make state

HAYS — Smoky Valley’s Calvin Shannon and Logan Windholz will be competing this week in the Class 4A State Cross Country Meet at Wamego.

Both were terrific Saturday in the regional meet, with Shannon taking third in 17:00, while Windholz was eighth in 17:25. Shannon is only a freshman, while Windholz is a repeat state qualifier.

Also running for the Vikes, who took fourth as a team, were Austin Lustfield (31st in 18:23), Zach Lott (33rd in 18:30), Isaac Peterson (38th in 18:43), Jackson Menke (62nd in 19:46) and Chandler Sherwood (94th in 22:02).

Three Viking girls competed. Paige Talbott was on top by taking 31st in 17:47, with the other runners being Sophia Peterson (53rd in 18:30) and Kaleigh Salzman (75th in 21:00).
