HESSTON — The Hesston Swathers will be the No. 3 seed Friday when the Class 3A State Volleyball Tournament unfolds at venerable White Auditorium in Emporia.

The Swathers won their sub-state tournament this past weekend. They are 35-3 on the year and play at 4:30 p.m. against Silver Lake (30-9), at 6:30 against Seneca-Nemaha Valley (32-11) and 8:30 against old nemesis and league rival Hillsboro (36-3), which has handed them two of their three losses. Hillsboro has won three straight state titles.

On the other side of the bracket are Douglass (36-2), Southeast of Cherokee (19-19), Wellsville (35-5) and Lakin (31-9).

If the Swathers get out of Friday’s pool play, they would play at 2 p.m. Saturday.
