BUHLER — Apparently McPherson High’s 44-42 upset of Buhler last Friday lit a fire under the Crusaders’ ninth-grade and JV football teams.

The younger Buhler teams extracted some revenge on Monday with a sweep of the Bullpups.

McPherson’s ninth-grade team, which was undefeated as eighth-graders and through its first seven games this season, found itself down 27-0 at the half and never recovered in a 33-8 loss.

Austen Hunt scored the only touchdown, with Mason Alexander throwing to Wyatt Seidl for the 2-pointer.

The Bullpup JVs finished with a 6-2 record after a 27-12 setback. Drew Labertew threw a TD pass to Caleb Spaich, while the other score was a Mikey Saverino interception return.

Still, it was a good year for both Bullpup teams, though it’s apparent the MHS-Buhler rivalry will live on.
