McPherson USD 418 Superintendent Dr. Randy Watson is a finalist for Kansas State Commissioner of Education.

The Kansas State Board of Education announced the four finalists on Wednesday. Along with Watson, current interim commissioner Brad Neuendswander made the cut, as did John Barge, state superintendent of schools in Georgia and Gillian Chapman, associate superintendent in Shawnee Mission USD 512.

The Kansas State Board of Education will conduct candidate interviews November 5 and 6, with an intent to name a new commissioner November 12, and for the new Commissioner to start before January 1, 2015.

Former State Commissioner Diane DeBacker resigned to serve as senior adviser to the director general of the Abu Dhabi Education Council.
