Mac spikers outlast Swedes

McPherson College outlasted county rival Bethany College in a thrilling five-set volleyball match here Wednesday.

The Bulldogs won the first and third sets (25-19, 25-18), while the Swedes won the second and fourth (25-18, 25-16). Mac won the decider 15-9 to move to 3-12 in the KCAC, while the Swedes are winless in 15 conference tries.

Mac’s Cortlyne Huppe and Taryn Lee led in kills with 15 and 14, respectively. Taylor Johnson recorded 28 assists, while Emily Warner was the dig leader with 19.

Alexa Gerber led the Swedes with 11 kills, while Eileen Vlamis was the assist leader with 21. Ariel Buhr’s 19 digs led Bethany.

Mac, now 10-16 overall, hosts Bethel on Monday. Bethany, just 3-23 overall, is home Saturday to take on Friends.
