Final week of picks for Fearless Forecaster

Fearless Forecaster was 12-4 last week, but he didn’t mind two of the losses at all.

What was expected to be a long weekend for McPherson’s teams — McPherson High and McPherson College — turned into one of the greatest back-to-back days of football for this town in a long time.

The Bullpups, of course, knocked off state-ranked Buhler on Friday and the next afternoon, the Bulldogs shocked nationally ranked Tabor on the road.

The 12-4 record leaves Fearless at 96-28 for the season, as he also lost on the Coffeyville-Augusta game (Augusta won a narrow decision) and Kansas Wesleyan knocked off Bethel as Fearless went against his normal procedure by picking the improved Threshers, who fell on their face.

This is the final week of picks as the regular season ends for the preps.

• McPherson 31, Hays 28 — It would have been so much easier for the Bullpups had Abilene held on to beat Hays last week.

• Buhler 58, Abilene 20 — The Cowboys are catching the Crusaders at the wrong time.

• Augusta 28, Independence 14 — Who would have thunk it? The Orioles are going to state after winning just six games the last five years.

• Andover Central 35, El Dorado 7 — Another long year for the Wildcats comes to an end.

• Coffeyville 27, Winfield 20 — The Vikings stumble to the finish line after a dissension-riddled season.

• Rose Hill 14, Mulvane 10 — The Rockets have played good defense all year.

• Last week — 3-2. Season — 26-7.

• Hesston 41, Southeast of Saline 27 — The Swathers complete a 9-0 regular-season run.

• Chapman 20, Smoky Valley 14 — I hope I’m wrong on this one.

 • Sedgwick 49, Moundridge 7 — I’ve never seen a high school team so devastated by injuries. Let’s hope the Wildcats get through this one without anybody else getting hurt.

• Inman 20, Medicine Lodge 12 — The Teutons finally score a win in their final game of the year.

• Little River 34, Solomon 28 — It’s on the playoffs for the Redskins.

• Canton-Galva 44, Ellinwood 22 — The Eagles finish with a second straight winning season under coach Jeff Savage.

• Last week – 6-0. Season — 39-5.

• KCAC •

• Sterling 27, McPherson College 21 — Would love to pick the Bulldogs, but I have a feeling they’re going to have a bit of a letdown after last week’s emotional victory.

• Bethany 17, Tabor 14 — Call this a gut feeling. The Bluejays are really hurting at the quarterback position.

• Saint Mary 33, Southwestern 24 — Southwestern is definitely the KCAC’s huge disappointment after being picked to finish fifth.

• Friends 38, Bethel 7 — The Falcons are rolling right now.

• Ottawa 62, Kansas Wesleyan 37 — Don’t expect a lot of defense here.

• Last week – 3-2. Season — 31-16.
