Lady Tigers lose season opener

DES MOINES, Iowa — Central Christian College’s women’s basketball team was impressive offensively in its season opener Friday night against Grand View University.

But not so much on the defensive end.

The Lady Tigers scored a creditable 78 points, but Grandview raced up and down the floor for 116 for the season-opening victory.

Kelly Smit led CCC with 24 points, including five treys. Kaylee Shaw added 18.

Brittany Halleland scored 33 for the winners.

Central is back at it here today at 2 p.m. against Mount Mercy, which received votes in the preseason national poll.
