Vikes make playoffs, draw No. 1 Andale

LINDSBORG — Smoky Valley fended off Chapman 20-14 Friday night to earn a trip to the Class 4A Division II playoffs.

The Vikings will take a 5-4 record to No. 1-ranked Andale (9-0) on Friday for the first round.

Smoky Valley led Chapman 14-7 at the half as Cole Norberg sped 72 yards for the first score and he hooked up with Brandon Archuleta for the other from three yards. Norberg’s second TD pass to Kirk Barnes, which came in the third quarter, proved to the winner.

Norberg was again magnificent for the Vikings with 35 carries for 164 yards. He also was on the mark by completing 10 of 14 passes for 87 yards. Greg Elvin and Riley O’Dell recorded 11 and 10 tackles, respectively.

McPherson High, Little River and Hesston are the other teams from this area to make the playoffs. Little River plays Tuesday at Pratt Skyline, while Hesston hosts Trinity Catholic.
