It was a great week for the Central Christian College women’s soccer team, which had been beset all year with injuries and had only 11 players available for Saturday’s Senior Day game with Johnson and Wales.
The Lady Tigers came away with their second victory of the week and third straight to close out the season, 2-1.
Mackenzie Woods scored the first CCC goal for a 1-0 halftime lead and Jaclyn Packard pushed it to 2-0 at the 74:49 mark. The Wildcats averted the shutout by scoring with 12 seconds left in the game.
Twila Smedley had seven saves in goal for Central.
The Lady Tigers ended the season 5-11-1, quite an accomplishment considering all the adversity they encountered. They were 4-4-1 at home.
• Johnson and Wales men 5, Central 2 — It wasn’t the finish to the regular season the Tigers had hoped for, as their defense was under siege all day.
The Wildcats led 2-1 at the half and piled on three more goals after the break.
CCC goals were recorded by David Salinas-Martinez and Ray Anderson. Josh Black and Cole Housch were credited with assists.
The Tigers are 7-7-3 and will await word on postseason play.
