All that stands between McPherson College’s men’s soccer team and a share of the outright KCAC championship is arch-rival Bethany College.

The Bulldogs did what they had to do here Saturday with a 3-0 shutout of Southwestern. Mac is now 7-0-1 in the KCAC, the same as Kansas Wesleyan. The Coyotes shouldn’t have a problem in their finale with Saint Mary, but the Swedes are 5-1-2 in the KCAC and sure to have their guns blazing when they play the Bulldogs here Tuesday.

Game time is 3 p.m.

Mac had trouble with the Builders for a half as the game was scoreless, but the Bulldogs stepped it up with three second-half goals.

“Today was an enjoyable day," Mac coach Doug Quint said. "We honored a great group of guys in our seniors. We played well for 90 minutes, but just couldn't break them down in the first half.  In the second half, our guys focused on what we talked about and it paid off. We finished some nice goals and created a lot today."

Alex Ronneburg led Mac with two goals and Octavio Villa had the other. Kevin Aka, Jose Angulo and Oscar Cortez came up with assists. Tanner Horton had to make only one save in goal as Southwestern mounted little offense due to Mac controlling possession.

The Bulldogs take an 11-3-2 overall record Tuesday’s showdown with the Swedes.

• MAC WOMEN 3, SOUTHWESTERN 2 — The Bulldogs improved to 3-5 in the KCAC, but need to tie or win against Bethany here Tuesday to qualify for postseason play.

Mac, 5-11-2 overall, trailed 1-0 at the half. After Rhea Vale scored for Mac to tie the game at 1-all, Southwestern went back ahead with 25 minutes remaining.

But the Bulldogs, seeing their playoff hopes flickering, charged back. Cydney Lewis tied the game in the 78th minute, then Amy Stockton posted the winner at the 81-minute mark off a pass by Jessica Dominguez.

Haley Anderson picked up her first win in goal for the Bulldogs.
