STERLING — McPherson College’s Laura Gibson punched her ticket to nationals during the KCAC Cross Country Championships on Saturday.
Gibson took seventh in 19:13.8 to meet the qualifying criteria. She will compete Nov. 22 in the national meet at Lawrence’s famed Rim Rock Farms.
Also for Mac, which took seventh as a team, Savana Cross ran a 20:10.5, finishing 18th. Heidi Lyne ran a 21:45.4 and was followed by Miranda Clark-Ulrich at 21:57.8. Lauren Wankum crossed the line at 23:15.5 to finish out the scoring Bulldogs. Erika Doty came in at 25:09.0 and rounding out MC was Sierra Ulrich at 32:04.5.
The Mac men took fourth.
Chris Newell led the Bulldogs by taking 14th, running a 27:06.6, which is a personal record. Chris Le (19th) and Dixon Cooney (20th) finished back-to-back at 27:19.6 and 27:24.0, respectively. Michael Janzer ran a 27:50.5 and Kurt Katzdorn clocked a 27:52.6 to finish off the Top 5.
The remaining McPherson runners were Jordan Bost (28:08.6), Jonathan Dominguez (29:41.4), Miguel Luna-Sanchez (30:19.5), David Friesen (31:56.9) and Karl Timmerman (36:10.9).
Gibson will have a couple weeks of training before the National Championships which are slated for November 22nd at Rim Rock Farms in Lawrence, Kansas.
