U.S. Senator Pat Roberts (R-Kan.), the most senior Marine in the Congress, today released the following statement honoring our nation’s veterans in observance of Veterans Day.
“Each year, Veterans Day gives us the opportunity to say thank you to the men and women who valiantly served in our nation’s armed forces.”
“We thank those who served on the battlefield and those who maintained peace. We thank those who dedicated their lives and careers to our military. We thank our veterans’ families for all they have endured so their loved ones can better serve. We share a moment of silence to thank those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.”
“It is critically important that we say thank you to all those who defended our freedom, our liberty and our shared American ideals, but we know our debt to these American heroes can never be repaid.
“As a Marine, I think about our men and women in uniform everyday. I think of my friend Bob Dole and his fellow World War II veterans. I think of my father who served on Iwo Jima and Okinawa, and I think of the young men and women in harm’s way defending our freedoms across the world right now.
“Join me this Veterans Day, and thank a veteran. Thank them for their selfless and honorable contributions to our communities, our state and a grateful nation. Semper Fi.”
