Central Christian College of Kansas, a participating member of the Kansas Independent College Association, serving over 1,000 students through its online and residential programs in McPherson, Kansas, announced today that it is launching a major in Risk Management and Insurance in partnership with Farmers Alliance of McPherson, Kansas (www.fami.com).
The program emerged from Dr. David Ferrell, Chair of Business Department at Central, and Greg McCullough, VP of HR at Farmers Alliance, investigating ways to provide an introduction to the field of insurance. Ferrell discovered very few college-level programs that provide such a major and opportunity. In fact, Central Christian College will be the first college in the state to offer a specific four-year major in the field of Risk Management and Insurance.
According to the 2010 McKinsey Report, the property & casualty sector of the insurance industry will need to fill 400,000 positions by 2020. This is due to the large number of baby boomers that will be retiring over the next 10-15 years. Unlike other industries, the insurance industry has a limited base through which qualified and trained professionals are ready to step in. The industry needs programs, such as the one being introduced at Central Christian College, to train future leaders.
