McPherson’s eighth-grade girls appeared to be in midseason form in their season opener here Thursday with a 51-8 lambasting of Great Bend.

The Bullpups displayed sharp teamwork and a suffocating defense as numerous steals led to easy scoring opportunities.

“Very proud of the team’s effort,” MMS coach Jay Crawford said. “They played very well, this being our first game. I liked the way we shared the ball and the way we played defense.  We hope to keep improving and working hard.”

Riley Hett led the Bullpups with 11 points. Nine Bullpups in all scored.

The B-team was a 22-12 winner behind four points apiece by Kari Ellet and Megan Eisenbarth.

The Bullpups will play Saturday at Great Bend in an invitational tournament.
