TOPEKA — Bethany College’s soccer teams unfortunately ran into Kansas Wesleyan in semifinal matches Thursday in the KCAC Postseason Tournament at Hummer Park.
Wesleyan won both games, 2-0.
In the women’s game, the Swedes and Coyotes played to a scoreless tie before Wesleyan put up a pair of goals in the second half.
“The game belonged to KWU and my hats are off to them,” Swede coach Sean McMannis said. “We struggled to find a rhythm, a spark and it ended tonight. We battled the last 15 minutes to pressure KWU to at least walk off the field with some self respect. It was great to get back to the semi for the second year in a row, and we hoped more, but it just wasn’t to be."
The Swedes finished the year 7-10-3.
The Bethany men gave up a goal in each half as the Coyotes applied constant pressure.
“Our guys left it all on the field tonight and I could not be more proud of this team," Bethany coach Shane Taylor said. "Our seniors really stepped up tonight and during the entire season and I am very thankful for their time and commitment to making our program and our college great."
Bethany closed the year 8-10-2.
