OVERLAND PARK — McPherson High graduate Briana Pontious was named to the Jayhawk Juco Conference volleyball first team this week.

Pontious was a standout on the Bullpups’ Class 4A state championship volleyball team in 2012. She has gone on to achieve greatness with the Lady Cavaliers, who were 22-12 this season and ranked No. 13 in the final national poll.

Pontious, a sophomore, led the Lady Cavaliers with 386 kills, which ranks her 42nd in the NJCAA. She also ranked 42nd nationally with a 3.19 kills per set average.

Her 386 kills this season rank as the 11th-best season in team history, and her 667 career kills rank her ninth all-time. She recorded 22 matches with 10 or more kills and two double-digit dig matches.
