Swede cagers split at home Friday night

LINDSBORG — Bethany College’s Cody Harris was in “the zone” Friday night.

Harris poured in 33 points, canning six 3-pointers in the process, to lead the Swede men to a 101-67 rout of Johnson & Wales at Hahn Gym.

Gary Jones and Jonathan Gidson scored 16 points apiece for the Swedes, while Devin Smith handed out 10 assists.

The Swedes were 38 of 65 from the field, 9 of 21 from 3-point.

Bethany improved to 3-1. Mid-America Christian comes to town Tuesday.

Johnson & Wales (67) — Mitchell 12, Bonner 17, Sharpley 3, Jones 10, Rayburn 4, Girtin 3, Tucker 8, Dennerline 3, McNiff 7.

• Johnson and Wales women 68, Bethany 64 — The Swedes, down 11 at the break, charged back in the second half, but it wasn’t enough as they are now 0-7 on the year.

Adriane Davis and Royce Shields continue to be the backbone of the scoring with 20 and 17 points, respectively. No other Swede scored more than six.

Bethany was just 19 of 62 for the game, but did turn it over only 13 times.

The Swedes host Mid-America Christian on Tuesday.
