WINFIELD — It turns out that McPherson College’s 10-7 football victory over Southwestern last Saturday was the final game for Moundbuilder coach Ken Crandall.

Crandall on Wednesday announced his immediate resignation after eight seasons.

"We would like to thank Ken for his tireless dedication to Southwestern College and to the Winfield community over the last eight years," Southwestern Athletic Director Dave Denly said. "We certainly wish him the best in his future endeavors."

Crandall was 25-59 in his eight seasons. Twice the Moundbuilders were 5-6, but never achieved a .500 or winning record. They were picked to finish fifth in this year’s KCAC preseason poll, but never got anything going, finishing 1-10 — the victory, though, came against then No. 3-ranked Tabor.

"We have already begun our search for the next Southwestern College football coach," Denly said. "We are committed to finding an individual that can help restore Moundbuilder football's championship tradition."
