McPherson High’s Kyler Kinnamon, coming off a junior year in which he was named first-team All-State All-Class in helping the Bullpups to a Class 4A Division I state basketball championship, has given a verbal commitment to Fort Hays State University for the 2015-16 season.

Kinnamon, a 5-10 guard, was the Bullpups’ sixth man as a freshman and has started the last two years, earning All-State honors in both.

Kinnamon is coming off a year in which he scored 16 points, averaged 6 assists, 3 steals and 3 rebounds a game.

In addition to basketball, Kinnamon has been a football standout as he was a three-year starter at quarterback. As a junior he broke the all-time MHS single-season rushing record with 1,662 yards and finished his career far and away the school’s all-time leader in total offense.

Kinnamon is one of three returning starters for the Bullpups this season, and they also have back most of their bench as 10 of the 12 players on last year’s state roster were underclassmen.

The Bullpups begin their season Dec. 5 hosting 2014 Class 4A Division I state tournament team El Dorado.
