ABILENE — McPherson’s eighth-grade A-girls were edged 31-28 Thursday by Abilene, the Bullpups’ first loss after two lopsided wins.

“The  girls got in a hole and we just could not make shots,” MMS coach Jay Crawford said. “We got good looks at the basket, but shots just would not fall. But we battled back and got the lead once at the end, but could not get a stop when we needed it. So proud of the fight the girls showed though.”

Hannah Hageman led the Bullpups with nine points.

The B-team improved to 3-0 with a 37-7 rout. Jaycee Burghart topped the scoring with 10 points, one more than Kari Ellet.

“The B-team played really well and shared the ball well,” Crawford said. “They continue to give good effort as well.”

The Bullpup teams will be hosting the McPherson Jamboree Saturday at the Roundhouse. Action begins at 9 a.m.
