McPherson’s seventh-grade girls swamped Abilene twice here on Thursday.

The A-team, now 3-0, stifled Abilene 37-15 as Cassie Cooks and Lakyn Schieferecke combined for 29 points, 16 by Cooks and 13 by Schieferecke.

“The girls came out aggressive on defense again and had several fast breaks off of steals,” said MMS coach Jacque Gehrt, whose team led 18-7 at the half. “The girls did a good job of getting the ball to the open player and rebounding.”

The B-team fashioned a similar result, 32-15. Shianne Newboles’ eight points were tops.

“The girls improved again tonight,” Gehrt said. “They are continuing to work hard and learn the game.”

The Bullpups will take part in Saturday’s McPherson Jamboree at the Roundhouse, with the action starting at 9 a.m.

MMS A (37) — Cooks 16, Schieferecke 13, Sweat 4, Strathman 2, Johnson 1, Nason 1.

MMS B (32) — Newboles 8, Pham 6, Collins 6, Harger 4, Tice 4, Strathman 4.
