ST. CHARLES, Mo. — Three Bethany College wrestlers placed Saturday in the Joe Parisi Open, hosted by Lindenwood University.

Placing for the Swedes were Kyler Atwood, former Smoky Valley High School state champion Trevor Whittaker and Spencer Wilson.

Atwood placed fourth in the 197 Black Division and Whittaker was fourth in the 184 Black Division. Wilson was sixth in that same division, which was for freshmen and sophomores. The two Swede wrestlers even had a head-to-head matchup, which Whittaker won 10-4.

“This was a great way for us to finish off the first phase of the season and head into break on," Bethany coach Cody Garcia said. "It is, without a doubt, one of our toughest tests with quality competition coming from some of the best programs in Division I. We are fortunate and grateful that we get that opportunity. I thought our guys competed with a lot of heart today. We still are struggling from a technical standpoint, but the effort is there. I am excited to give our guys a chance to heal up and be back to full strength in two weeks.”
