McPherson’s eighth-grade A-boys used nice balance here Thursday to emerge with a 54-47 victory over Salina South.
Kyler Hoppes led the way with 12 points, while Elijah Muehler and Jace Kinnamon furnished 10 apiece. Jake Alexander just missed doubles with nine and Gabe Hoover came off the bench for eight while providing a defensive spark.
“Gabe Hoover, I felt, had an excellent first game back from a broken clavicle,” MMS coach Tyler Brown said. “He had several key steals in the fourth quarter along with a layup and some big free throws down the stretch to help us pull out a key win over Salina South. Although Gabe, I felt, had a breakout game, we really had a collective effort with five guys scoring, if not in double figures close to it. If we are going to continue to win, though, our decision-making and rebounding must get better.”
The A-team is now 3-0.
The B-team fell to 1-2 after a 35-28 loss. Honestee Whittker led MMS with seven points.
