McPherson Middle School’s eighth-grade boys and Pratt Liberty battled down to the wire in an earlier meeting this year, but that wasn’t the case here Tuesday.
The Bullpups sprinted to a 31-10 halftime lead and rolled to a 50-22 victory as they are now 4-0 on the year.
“I felt our guys competed on another level from what I have seen in the first three games this season,” MMS coach Tyler Brown said. “Two of our main focuses were on rebounding, forcing our opponent to what I like to say is "one and done or not even get a shot off.” The second was getting out and scoring in transition. Jay Bilas says it best, “tough players run hard and get ‘easy’ baskets, even though there is nothing easy about them." And we did exactly that. This group of guys could be scary good when things are clicking on all cylinders. Needless to say I thought we played our best game so far of the year. I was very pleased with how they performed today.”
Elijah Muehler and Kyler Hoppes led the Bullpups with 13 points apiece, while Jake Alexander furnished 10.
The B-team is now 2-2 after a 44-21 triumph. The Bullpups had nice balance, with Brandon Yowell and Chandler Wiard pacing the scoring with seven points apiece. Twelve Bullpups scored.
