Students enrolled in Inman High School's Media Tech course will present their musical arrangements during the annual IHS Christmas Concert to be held Monday, Dec. 15, beginning at 7 PM in the IHS Auditorium.
The McPherson Community Brass Choir will perform an arranged piece created by IHS Junior, Caleb Renner, entitled "el desembre congelatâ". Renner has spent a portion of his fall semester creating the musical arrangement while in the IHS Music Tech class.
According to IHS Band and Music Tech Instructor, Ben Scheirling, "Very few students get the opportunity to write their own music, much less have it performed in a concert, especially by an exceptional group of musicians like the McPherson Brass Choir."
Renner's arrangement of a 15th century Christmas carol is one of three IHS student-created pieces to be showcased during this evening concert.
IHS Junior Nikki Zhao will also be presenting her piano arrangement of the Christmas song, "What Child is This?"
IHS Senior Dual Herron will also present his choral arrangement "Ner Liâ" which will feature a quartet made up of local musicians.
According to Schierling, "I have been surprised at the high level of quality that my music tech students have achieved in their pieces."
The Media Tech program is a new course offered at Inman High School, and provides students with musical interests the opportunity to take their knowledge and skills to another level by composing musical arrangements.
Students in the Inman Jr/Sr High School Band and Jazz Band programs will also showcase their work during this evening concert.
The concert is a free event, open to the public.
