City passes sewer rate increase

The McPherson City Commission on Monday passed a sewer rate increase effective January 1, 2015, to pay for several sewer infrastructure improvements.

The City is proposing West trunk line improvements into the Wastewater Treatment Plant, reconstruction of Water Treatment Plant road, a new sanitary sewer installation in the alley between Barber and Myers Street between Loomis and Anna Streets and new sewer infrastructure along Centennial between Northview and Kansas Avenue to handle anticipated increased needs with the development of industrial areas in that part of the city.

The costs are initially estimated at almost $2.9 million, but if the pipes along the West trunk line cannot be lined as originally proposed, those costs could increase. The average homeowner will see less than a two dollar a month increase on their bill.
