LINDSBORG — The KCAC’s Men’s Offensive Player of the Week chosen on Monday doesn’t even start for his team.

Bethany College’s super sub Jonathan Gidson, who supplies instant offense offn the bench, was rewarded for his play in two games last week as the Swedes knocked off Bethel 90-73 and Southwestern, 97-93.

Gidson, a 6-4 junior guard, averaged 20 points per game and 8.5 rebounds. He also averaged 2.5 assists.

Against Bethel, Gidson pulled down nine rebounds to go with his 18 points. Of his nine rebounds, four were offensive.

Against Southwestern, Gidson totaled 22 points and eight rebounds.

"Jon is a very consistent player for us and is a multi-dimensional player who can play several positions for us," Bethany coach Clair Oleen said. "Jon makes big plays in all phases of the game, be it on defense, offense or rebounding."

Gidson shot 52 percent from the floor, 30 percent from 3-point and 70 percent from the free throw line.

For the season, he is averaging 16.5 points a game and six rebounds in 23 minutes. He is making 49 percent of his shots, 35 percent from 3-point territory and 72 percent from the line. Gidson is third on the team in scoring, second in rebounding, third in blocks and has a team-leading 16 steals.
