Central Christian College’s 9-2 start to its men’s basketball season has not gone unnoticed.
The Tigers are ranked No. 10 in the National Christian College Athletic Association poll. CCC has dual membership with the NCCAA and NAIA.
The Tigers are 5-1 at home, their only loss coming on a last-second shot to the Bethel College Threshers after leading by as many as 19. They are 3-1 on the road and 1-0 in neutral venues. They also own victories over three KCAC teams, including in-town rival McPherson College and KCAC co-leader Friends.
As a team, they rank in the Top 10 in three NAIA categories. They are 5th in field goal percentage defense (.379), 6th in total rebounds per game (44.3) and 8th in offensive rebounds per game (15.3).
Individually Alonzo Stafford is 6th in field goal percentage (.646), 29th in blocks per game (1.6), 33rd in total rebounds per game (8), 41st in total blocks (16) and 42nd in offensive rebounds per game (2.8). Michael Gholston joins him in the rankings at 49th in 3-point field goals made per game (2.636).
"It is always nice to have the team receive positive recognition,” CCC coach Tony Romero said. “We have the opportunity to use this as motivation to continue to work hard and understand there are rewards for those efforts. This group has been fun to coach and I am excited to see what they can accomplish second semester."
