McPherson High’s girls won two games in impressive fashion last week and vaulted from No. 10 to No. 7 Monday in the latest Kansas Basketball Coaches Association rankings.

MHS knocked off previously undefeated Abilene and defending Missouri Class 5A champion Lee’s Summit North last week and is now 4-1 on the year.

Ahead of the Bullpups in Class 4A Division I are Miege, Paola, Hayden, Ottawa, Labette County and Chanute. Behind MHS at No. 8 is Ottawa, followed by Andale and Bonner Springs.

The MHS boys remain No. 2 behind Miege. Trailing the Bullpups are Andale, Basehor-Linwood, Hays, Abilene, Eudora, Hayden, Paola and Independence.

The Hesston girls remain No. 1 in Class 3A, but the Swather boys have dropped to No. 6, trailing Wichita Collegiate, Beloit, Scott City, Nemaha Central and Riverton.

The Moundridge girls are ranked No. 8 in Class 2A.

Rankings of note on the girls’ side, Mid America Classic teams Olathe South and Manhattan are No. 3 and No. 5, respectively, in Class 6A and as mentioned, Andale is No. 9 in 4A Division I, meaning half the teams in the field are ranked. On the boys’ side, McPherson Invitational entrant Wichita Heights is No. 3 in Class 5A.
