SIOUX CITY, Iowa — McPherson College’s men’s basketball team lost its second game to a ranked opponent in as many days on Tuesday when No. 24 Briar Cliff raced to an 87-62 win in the Morningside Holiday Classic.

Mac fell to 4-11 with the loss, its 10th in the last 11 games.

The defeat spoiled a brilliant career-high 31-point effort by TJ Grant. He was 10 of 16 from the field and 10 of 11 at the line as he bedeviled the Briar Cliff defense time and again.

“Briar Cliff is good," McPherson coach Tim Swartzendruber said. "We competed well in the first half, but struggled to score in the second. TJ had a great game, probably the best he has had since being at McPherson."

Briar Cliff led 40-30 at the half and the Bulldogs saw the advantage swell after the break.

The Bulldogs remain on the road Saturday to play Baker, with tip time 4 p.m. Then it’s back to KCAC action on Jan. 8 with yet another road game at Sterling.

Mac (62) — Grant 31, Hill 15, Beeler 4, Lakin 3, Crook 3, Parker 4, Jolly 2.

Briar Cliff (87) — Forbes 12, Berg 7, Lefler 6, Graves 5, Homan 4, Harreld 14, Otting 12, Torres 7, Eisma 6, Pohlen 5, Rethwisch 4, Comstock 3, Williams 2.
