McPherson College’s women’s basketball team will begin the 2015 portion of its schedule in the sunshine.

The Bulldogs will play afternoon games in the Kansas Wesleyan Coyote Classic on Friday and Saturday at Mabee Arena.

Mac’s first action is at 2 p.m. Friday against Peru State, then the Bulldogs return to Salina on Saturday for a noon game against York.

Friday’s game matches a pair of two-win teams as the Bulldogs are 2-12 and the Bobcats are 2-8. Saturday’s game is a rematch of an earlier meeting when York was an 82-58 winner at the Sport Center.

The Bulldogs have relied greatly on their 1-2 punch of Bailey Brown and Sunny Smart. Brown averages 17.1 points and a surprising 8.1 rebounds despite being a 5-5 guard. Smart averages 12.3 points.

Before Christmas, Alicia Demaret was developing into one of the better freshmen in the KCAC, averaging 7.1 points and 6.3 rebounds. Coach Gordon Reimer is hoping she can continue her improvement to provide a consistent third scoring option.

This will be the Bulldogs’ only action before returning to KCAC battles on Thursday, Jan. 8 at Sterling.
