WICHITA — McPherson High’s bowling team lit it up on Tuesday as it opened the season in successful fashion.

The defending state champion Bullpup girls actually had just a dual with Collegiate, which turned into an MHS rout, 2,320-1,134.

Jasmine Wann (632) and Makenzie Benson (609) both eclipsed the 600 barrier. Wann had a 247 game to highlight her effort and Benson had a 220.

The MHS boys, coming off a third-place state finish, appeared to be in midseason form with a 2,443, well ahead of Collegiate (1,808) and Independent (1,668) in what turned into a triangular.

As expected, Carl Frazier led the Bullpups with a 712, with a high of 258 and all three games were in the 200s. Freshman Clayton Ouellette showed no first-tournament nerves with a 625 and Jeff Reed chipped in with a 609. Ouellette had a high of 250 and Reed had a 232.

"It was a good way to start the season," MHS coach Herb Halinski said. "We still have a lot of work to do. We missed too many spares."

The Bullpups will be home on Friday to take on Andale, with the action starting at 3 p.m. at Starlite Lanes.
