SALINA — McPherson’s eighth-grade A-boys were in defensive lockdown mode on Thursday as they strafed Salina South 51-27 to improve to 8-0 on the year.

“Defensively this group is starting to click,” MMS coach Tyler Brown said. “We held Salina South to two points in the second quarter and only six points in the fourth quarter and even did well in the third quarter only allowing eight points. This team just keeps improving with every game.”

Elijah Muehler led the Bullpups with 19 points, followed by Brandon Wilson with eight.

The B-team gutted out a 29-19 triumph to improve to 4-4 on the year. Noah Avila’s nine points led the way.

MMS plays Monday at Salina Lakewood and Tuesday against Junction City, two of the toughest teams on the Bullpups’ schedule, according to Brown. The B-team is playing Saturday in a tournament at Salina.

MMS A (51) — Muehler 19, Wilson 8, Hoppes 7, Hoover 6, Alexander 5, Kinnamon 5, Avila 1.

MMS (29) — Avila 9, Trost 8, Brossard 6, Stegman 3, Brewer 3.
