OMAHA, Neb. — When Central Christian College’s women lost to Grace University earlier this season, it was one the Lady Tigers believed they let get away.

Central avenged that 81-78 setback in a big way on Thursday by going on the road for an 83-47 rout to improve to 5-9 on the season.

All 14 Lady Tigers who played scored, led by Kelly Smit with 14 points, while Kaylee Shaw (13) and Molly Young (10) also were in doubles.

Central trailed 14-7 early, but outscored the Royals 36-11 the rest of the half and continued to pull away in the second half.

CCC returns home for a 3 p.m. Saturday game against Hillsdale Baptist.

CCC (83) — Smit 14, Woods 1, Void 6, Costello 3, Salazar 5, Young 10, Regier 5, Garza 2, Campa 5, LeBrane 4, Spence 8, Laskowski 3, Alderson 4, Shaw 13.

Grace (47) — Wirges 3, Gamble 9, Caver 7, Ouedraogo 12, Lyon 2, Orozco 8, Dreher 3, Alvarez 3.

• CCC MEN UPSET — It hasn’t been a good start to 2015 for the Tiger men.

The Tigers lost their second straight of the new year to fall to 9-4 on the season with a tough Hillsdale Baptist team coming to town for a 5 p.m. game Saturday.

Grace University outlasted the Tigers 75-72 as CCC had a slow start to the game, down 35-27 at the half.

“We are just not playing very good basketball right now,” CCC coach Tony Romero said. “Coaches and players have to do better. We are not playing with a whole lot of confidence, a lot of mental errors. I was happy with way we battled back after being down 17, we put ourselves in position to win with under 2 minutes to go, but just couldn't finish it out.  Committing 25 turnovers and shooting 50 percent from the free throw line, we are not going to win many games that way.”

Central’s Alonzo Stafford came up with his fifth double-double of the season with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Michael Gholston scored 17, Dustin Rojas banged in five treys for 15 and Daniel Nwosuh scored 11.

CCC (72) — Stafford 19, Quincy 2, Nwosuh 11, Gholston 17, Rojas 15, Jackson 3, Robbins 5.

Grace (75) — Stewart 11, Akinbote 13, Sheffield 19, Santiel 2, Penner 9, Mayo 4, Shappell 11, Suero 6.
