LEAVENWORTH — Saint Mary men’s basketball coach Jon Bishop is officially out after being on suspension for several weeks.

Saint Mary officials made the announcement on Friday and have promoted Troy Brown to interim head coach.

Brown’s first game as head coach Saturday resulted in an upset loss to Southwestern, knocking the Spires out of a first-place tie.

Brown, an assistant to Bishop for four years, played basketball for Saint Mary from 1999-2001. School officials confirmed that Bishop is no longer with the school in any capacity.

"I feel very confident in Troy's ability to lead the program,” Saint Mary Athletic Director Rob Miller said. "He's a USM grad, he knows us, and is a great fit for the program and what we're trying to accomplish."
