WICHITA — McPherson High’s bowling teams competed in the always-entertaining and unusual Baker Tournament hosted Saturday by Bishop Carroll.
This is a different type of format where it’s a team event with unusual stipulations. The Bullpup girls took sixth place out of 26 teams and the boys were 16th, also out of 26.
The defending state champion girls were the top 4A team, finishing behind Wichita East, Garden City, Kapaun, Goddard Eisenhower and Maize. Derby won the boys’ event, just ahead of Wichita Northwest.
“The girls did a great job finishing sixth,” MHS coach Herb Halinski said. “They were consistent all day long, but again we left a lot on the lanes by missed spares. The boys are a young team, with four freshman at this meet. It was a learning experience for most of them. I am very proud of each and every one of the boys and girls. They all held their heads high all day. They all will get better as the season progresses.”
The Bullpups should have a good test Friday when they host Augusta. The Augusta girls were 14th in the Baker Tournament and the Oriole boys finished well ahead of MHS at No. 8.
