It’s a busy three days for McPherson High’s wrestling team.

The Bullpups are on the road tonight for a 6 p.m. dual at Winfield, then turn around and begin competition on Friday morning in the prestigious Newton Tournament of Champions.

The Bullpups are 2-1 in duals. Their last head-to-head matchup came against Buhler, as they scored falls in their final three matches for a pulsating 39-36 victory.

Winfield generally has a strong team. MHS’ MO this season has been to be strong at the three lowest weights and then the four-highest upper weights. How the Bullpups can hold their own in the middle will determine the outcome.

The Newton Tournament of Champions is considered to wrestling what the McPherson Invitational is to basketball. Many state championship contenders will be in the field.

After this grueling gauntlet, the Bullpups will be off until Jan. 29 when they have a dual at Rose Hill.

One other related wrestling note, MHS’ undefeated 106-pounder Austin Eldredge is ranked No. 3 in his weight class by the Kansas Wrestling Coaches Association. He missed all of last week with the flu.
